Conrad Public Library

This project site had the challenge of being a Main Street in-fill location, wedged between two buildings and restricted by Main Street in the front and an access alley in the back. Although formidable, the design was not only able to give the residence of Conrad a beautiful library, but also enhance their downtown cityscape and create a gather space for the entire community to enjoy. The design incorporated park landscaping in front, unique spaces for children, and an adult reading/conversation area centered on a fireplace with views of Main Street. A bisecting central hallway allows after hours’ community usage of the meeting room, kitchenette and restrooms.

Within the library itself were design considerations to create a grand entrance with skylight and sculptures as well as a favorite “fire-side” gather space facing the Main Street that has become a staple destination spot for Conrad residents of all ages. Of particular interest is the detailed design and furnishing of the children’s area, complete with age-appropriate sized furnishing, themed to ignite a young person’s imagination. This award winning library has become a cornerstone of the Conrad community.
