This project included a gym with a platform stage, wrestling and weight rooms, a fine arts complex and a classroom each for foreign languages and math. The school’s office area and art room was transformed into a media center and computer lab as well as a faculty lounge and alpha classroom. The existing media center now serves as the new offices for the school’s administrative team, counselors and nurse. Other renovations included turning the three existing science rooms into two science labs, which improved instruction for those classes.
The kitchen, which serves almost half of the district’s students, moved into the space originally occupied by band and choir rooms and part of the cafeteria. The stage was removed from the cafeteria, opening that space for lunchroom activity. The move also gave kitchen staff some “desperately” needed storage space.
An addition in the southeast corner of the school houses the fine arts complex, wrestling and weight rooms and a full-size practice gym with a platform stage to replace the one removed from the cafeteria. The entire project was phased over a two-year period while education continued in the building.
