This multi-phase expansion and modernization project of East Elementary School is in its final phase. The project, designed to expand the original two-section building into a three-section, provides needed common and specials spaces and refinishes and upgrades the building for the future.
The now completed first phase of the project added a student commons/cafeteria, kitchen, and full size gymnasium with raised performing stage. The addition was built and occupied so that spaces in the building that housed those functions could be re-purposed.
The completed second phase of the expansion added a new office addition and created a secure entry vestibule while providing the complex with a new front door. The original half-size gym and cafeteria was then remodeled into a media center, computer lab, and accessory spaces. This phase also completely reconfigured the site with new parking and drop-off drives and reoriented the traffic to the new “front door”.
The final phase added an addition to provide dedicated classroom space for art, music, and preschool. Additionally space formerly occupied by the former media center gets remodeled into new classrooms and special education rooms. Lastly, older finishes in the building get upgraded in the building to make it ready for the future and the building comparable to the district’s newer facilities.
